I think it is time to talk about this, because my “on hiatus” from the BJD world is taking an indefinite time.
I stopped making new dolls in 2022 after an art block and the Russian invasion of Ucrania. I started feeling so bad and useless, and I could’t see the point of making luxury dolls in a world that was so broken. I started seeing it as a frivolus job, and I felt I needed a job where I could help people someway… so I started doing competitive exams to work in a public hospital.
Not sure how that is in the rest of the world, but here in Spain we have an excelent public healthcare, and some years there are exams to apply for “lifetime” jobs. They are really really hard, and you have to gain extra points doing courses every year, so it can take years to have both, very good notes in the exams and the max number of extra points possible because you are literaly competing with thousand of people for a few slots. So I’ve been studing during the last few years… I have been so focused studing that I even got another degree (in web app development), because I told myself that I needed a plan B in case that I didn’t get it. I haven’t studied that much in my life, high school and College were a child play compared to this. LOL
The things is my head was focused between studing laws for the exams, and app programming for the degree. There were no space for any creativity or artistic work.
And that is the reason because I’ve been so out of the bjd world. I still accepted makeup commissions from time to time, and I customized Monster High dolls and other dolls for myself. I’m trying to get my inspiration back because art always has been one of the most important thing in my life, and missing it is being really hard.
Tomorrow is my first day working at the hospital and I’m trilled and scared at the same time. This is a summer job and not my definitive job but I got it guys ;)
Thanks for your continuous support!
